Why Val d’Isère?

Many ski resorts vie for the title of “World’s Best Ski Resort”. Some receive more snow, some offer easier slopes back to the resort, and some boast more extensive beginner areas.

However, here’s why we believe Val d’Isère can genuinely claim to be the best.

Image shows a skier carving a trail on a steep slope in a dramatic mountainous setting.

Thanks to its altitude, topography, technology, and micro-climate, Val d’Isère probably receives more snow and maintains it longer than any other area in the Alps:

  • The resort sits at a high altitude of 1850m, well above the rain/snow limit.

  • The majority of skiing is situated above 2200m, including the wide, expansive bowls of Bellevarde and Solaise, offering endless blues and greens.

  • A high proportion of back-to-resort runs are oriented east and north, providing more shade and ensuring skiable conditions throughout the season.

  • The vast network of 650+ snow cannons guarantees good snow coverage even in poor snow years.

  • The local weather system from Italy, known as Le Retour d’Est, can deliver substantial snowfall, particularly benefiting the Pisaillas and Fornet sectors.

With over 300km of piste skiing and virtually limitless off-piste, there’s enough variety to keep skiers of all levels entertained for a lifetime. From the perfect learning slopes of the Grand Pré to challenging blacks like the iconic Face de Bellevarde, and the immense powder bowls of Cugnai and Grand Vallon, Val d’Isère truly offers some of the best skiing in the world.

The superbly well connected, high-speed lift system means you’ll never be queuing, whenever you time your visit.

Beyond skiing, Val d’Isère also offers exceptional accommodation, restaurants (both in the village and on the slopes), après-ski and nightlife at every price-point. If you’re looking for inspiration, please get in touch for our latest recommendations.
